50 down, 1,410 Racist Sunsets To Go

January 20th, 2017. It’s been 50 days since then and the ascension of the Tangerine Tyrant. Shame on all of you who thought we’d be dead by now. Granted, I know millions of you wish you were, but suck it up; as the Roman philosopher Seneca said, sometimes even to live is an act of courage. So, as I say, **** Drumpf, May, Brexit,, Duterte, Le Pen and the rest. I'm still here in spite of everything, rather than because of anything.

50 days. I’ve spent the past 20 or so in semi-permanent state of déjà vu, keen to express my opposition to the mendacity of the orange angry granddad and his cronies, but overwhelmed by the tsunami of lies. I haven’t been able to keep up. Fact checking Kerryanne Conway, Stephen Goebbels Miller, Mike Pence, Melissa McCarthy Shaun Spicer and Sunburnt Stalin himself is like being told you can get a suntan at night. You know it’s not true but you’re being told it is by a racist sunburnt emperor and his grovelling acolytes so in bemusement, you accept that’s what they think and stagger away, astounded that people exist who believe these prevaricators. Don’t worry – anyone capable of tyranny is capable of perjury to maintain it so let’s give them a rope and inevitably they’ll hang themselves.

It seems they already are.

I could catalogue all of the controversy relating to Russia here, a litany of hypocrisy and ‘forgotten’ meetings with senior Kremlin officials but wheres the fun in that? Besides, I’m avoiding activity that induces suicidal tendencies and dwelling on Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III squeaking his denials of the very existence of Russia to the Senate….ugh. It’s like watching the offspring of a house elf and a hobbit ask for acceptance as a normal human being; macabre yet pitiful at the same time. Anyway, the fact is that those of us opposed to hate, bigotry, kleptocracy, sexism, intolerance, hypocrisy, lies, policy that favours the wealthy and basic ****ing stupidity, have to accept that in all likelihood there are another 1,410 racist sunsets to go. It may feel like we’re drowning in the swamp but we need to acclimatise or else this stench will become normal. And it’s not. When we accept that, then the flames of protest will continue to burn and an inferno of truth is inevitable.

So to sum up the first 50 days, let’s recall some of the eloquence, with, perspicacity and statesmanship of the 45th President of the United States. It’s possible there may be a few tweets in there - with a hint personal critique.

Jan 20th: “From this day forward it will be only, America first. America first”. Sieg heil, seig heil.

Jan 21st: Something called The Womens March on Washington occurred. Except it wasn’t just Washington. Or in fact America. It was international. To get so many people to hate everything you stand for takes skill – and so quickly too.

Jan 22nd: “Watched protests yesterday but was under the impression that we just had an election! Why didn’t these people vote? Celebs hurt cause badly.” Apparently he did see the protests. He followed up with a clenched-teeth tweet praising the right to protest and finished the day off praising his election results and obsessing about his inauguration crowd size. In front of the wall of heroes at the CIA. Class.

Jan 24th: You down with TPP? Hell no, not me says Drumpf striking a blow for nationalists everywhere. The world is reintroduced to the world’s angriest intern, Sean Spicer, who complains about press coverage of 45’s wang. Okay his inauguration crowd but we know what he meant. We then get the first sight of what will become a regular picture – 45 surrounded by cabinet drones and holding up a signed executive order he signed with his big boy pen. And this was the beginning of CNN being officially announced as the ‘fake news’ channel. And of course Fox are brilliant. Tremendous. Believe me.

Jan 25th: The crazy is starting to kick in as 45 asks for a major investigation in to voter fraud of over 3 million people alleged illegal voters. Apparently some of them are deceased. It’s clear that Sunburnt Stalin sees dead people everywhere ,which accounts for his miscalculation about his crowd size. And his hands.

Jan 28th: The Muslim ban, that wasn’t a Muslim ban until you said it was Muslim ban because we haven’t banned most Muslims and didn’t ban anyone because……sorry, I’ve got Sean Spicer on a loop in my brain. Anyway, 45 is pissed so he attacks the New York Times. Sorry, failing New York Times.

Jan 30th: Trump says any problems form his Immigration executive order (it’s not a Muslim Ban) are down to Delta Airlines and their shitty computer, which is totally overrated. And he let’s us know there’s a lot of bad dudes out there.

Jan 31st: Orange Hitler derides Democratic lawmakers for holding a protest in opposition to his ban that’s not a ban and their efforts to stall confirmation of his cabinet members; because Republicans would never and have never been that obstructive to the workings of government. And he calls Chuck Schumer ‘Fake Tears’, just to remind us that he can still crack wise with the best of us. Oh, what a laugh riot he is.

Feb 1st: Trump is clearly thinking ‘**** Obama and his shitty deals. Can you believe America has to take in 1,250 refugees from Australia? Worst deal ever, or at least since the last deal that was the worst deal ever. Get me that koala hugger on the phone. Hey Turnbull – you suck.’ I’m paraphrasing but relations with Australia seem to be…..different.

Feb 2nd: 45 threatens to pull funding from UC Berkeley after professional dick, Milo Yiannopoulos’ planned visit erupts in violence. He seems unaware that he can’t do that but there’s a shitload he seems unaware of so hey, whatever. The Yemen raid. It was a catastrophe but apparently it’s Obama’s fault. It will transpirte that a lot is still Obama’s fault. Oh, and Mike Flynn puts Iran on notice. Nobody knows what that means.

Feb 3rd: 45 has an issue with Schwarzenegger’s Apprentice ratings and asks for divine intervention at the National Prayer Breakfast. He spouts a lot more crap that I can’t be bothered to regurgitate

Feb 4th: Drumpf is pissed with Judge James Robart’s decision to shut down his ban that isn’t a ban, and he let us know. The long and short of 45’s vituperative was to call him ‘a so called Judge’ and whine about the decision in a succession of tweets. Hilariously, the ‘failing’ New York Times added 276,000 extra subscriptions in the last quarter of 2016 and 25,000 new hard copy subscriptions. But it’s failing, believe me, a total disaster.

Feb 5th: It’s the Super Bowl but the Mandarin Maniac still finds time to blame Judge Robarts and the court system for any terrorist attempt(s).

Feb 6th: “Any negative polls are fake news”. WTF? If this guy talks to himself in he=is sleep, he lies then too.

Feb 7th: “I don’t know Putin, have no deals in Russia, and the haters are going crazy – yet Obama can make a deal with Iran, #1 in terror, no problem!” How dare he tarnish the word ‘haters’, forever.

Feb 8th: A true tweetstorm targeting the judiciary and media. But these two are my favourites. First, “My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!” Terrible that your wife-daughter keeps asking you to do the right thing? Second, “Big increase in traffic into our country from certain areas, while our people are far more vulnerable, as we wait for what should be EASY D!” Haters? Easy D? Is he Vanilla Ice? Make that Tangerine Ice.

Feb 9th: 45 tells Judges that he’ll see them in court after their ban overturns. Let that speak for itself.

Feb 10th: The wall – I’d forgotten about that. So had Trump. But it’s being reported it’ll cost $21 billion, which of course Mexico will pay for. He shares a bone-crushing 19-second handshake with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and pretends to understand Japanese. But he still has time to tweet about Ivanka’s unfair treatment by Sears and Kmart. Plus, he thinks she’s hot.

Feb 12th: Shit. The reincarnation of Goebbels is here in Stephen Miller. George Stephanopoulos has rarely looked more stunned in an interview. Meanwhile Drumpf lambasts the ‘fake news media’ for allegedly not reporting the size of his crowds at Mar-a-Lago (what is it with this dude and size) and says goodbye to his 2 day of golfing chum, Shinzo Abe. Abe avoids a prolonged handshake.

Feb 13th: Trudeau and Trump. Beauty and the Beast. The American orange and the Canadian beef. The media swoons at what a leader can look and sound like. So does Ivanka. A lot. Oh, Michael Flynn resigns because he’s a lying sack of shit and probably a Russian spy.

Feb 14th: “The real story here is why are there so many illegal leaks coming out of Washington? Will these leaks be happening as I deal on N.Korea etc?” That’s Trump’s response to Flynn’s resignation. I give up.

Feb 15th: All of a sudden Trump hates leaks. “The real scandal here is that classified information is illegally given out by “intelligence” like candy. Very un-American!” And to show how to be an American he hosts the Israeli Prime Minister and tells him he has no clue about the 2 state solution as, “he likes whichever one they like”. Genius.

Feb 16th: **** clean water. Obama’s coal mining rule preventing companies form dumping ash into streams is undone. Making America poisoned again should be a new cap. And it seems the news is fake but the leaks are real? I say again, WTF?? And of course the press conference to end them all

Feb 17th: Full on crazy now. The media are “the enemy of the people.” Reminds me of the speeches of Mugabe, Putin – you know, ‘strong’ leaders’. 45 said a lot today but it’s so much of the same abusive crap that I can’t be arsed to repeat it and you certainly shouldn’t need to re-read it.

Feb 18th: In his element, Cheetos Jesus revels in the adulation of his ‘friends’ at his campaign rally. Dear God – campaign rally?! Already? The stench of the last one is still in my nostrils. By the way, Sweden is a terrorist hellhole as according to the glorious leader something happened there the previous evening. Which was news to the Swedes.

Feb 19th: “My statement as to what’s happening in Sweden was in reference to a story that was broadcast on @FoxNews concerning immigrants & Sweden.” Well that’s okay then. And it didn’t stop his supporters from attacking Sweden seeking evidence of the slightest immigrant wrongdoing.

Feb 20th: President’s Day, yaaaay. So of course Americans took to the streets across 30 cities to host ‘Not My President” marches. And once again, 45 blames the media for reporting what he said, not what he meant saying “Give the public a break – The FAKE NEWS media is trying to say that large scale immigration in Sweden is working out just beautifully. NOT!” Can you see where the fatigue started for me?

Feb 22nd: Trump goes to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. I know it shouldn’t seem contentious but Trump around that many black people who he wasn’t refusing accommodation just seems incongruous…

Feb 25th: After a few days boring us to death with complaints about leakers (no jokes about Russian pee-pee tapes please), Hair Hitler starts his day fantasising what it would be like if his supporters threw their own rally/protest. Errr, wasn’t there one in Florida last week?

By now you get the gist. The leader of the free world says what he think and doesn’t think about what he says. But at least he can’t get any crazier with…..what’s that? Obama? Phone taps? Sorry, I mean phone tapps. Aww, **** it let’s just briefly revisit the day when peak crazy occurred.

March 4th: “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my "wires tapped" in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism! Followed by, “Is it legal for a sitting President to be "wire tapping" a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!” But he wasn’t done yet. “How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!”

What is there to say? We know he lacks decency, honesty, class, civility and hands of a normal size but does he hate his country? Why teeter at the precipice so often unless this is all some grand plot to destroy the pillars of American democracy entirely? I don’t know the answer and I’m certainly too fatigued by the populists’ lies to forensically analyse everything the leaders of these cults spew from their lying, self-interested mouths. But I do know I’ll keep watching, commenting and ridiculing because demagogues and dictators hate scorn. Let’s not kid ourselves, lie and tell our kids that everything will be alright because it won’t. Not unless we pay attention, protest when necessary and hold the plutocrats all over the world to account.

Because even if it is necessary sometimes to lie to others, it is always despicable to lie to oneself.
